LA DOES rock, but you have to be honest to yourself when you think about it. A night like this in LA is very rare. You can't find live music every night, so finding the greats like this even once a week is not going to happen.

Also, I find that when I go to NYC I see some real edgy creative music that I haven't heard before. Where as in LA, it's either traditional jazz, 80's Weckl Jazz fusion, or some kind of fusion rock or R+B. All very dated sounding, great nonetheless, but I've heard it all before. No edge, no breaking any ground. I prefer Wayne Krantz, Jojo Mayers Drum and Bass band, Ravi Coltrane's with Hass playing some wierd acoustic music in 23, or Mojo, Shawn Pelton's band, using interesting instumentation like accordian and tuba with drum loops. I guess I need more creativity that LA has to offer at times. I've lived here for 8years and I've only been blown away at a few gigs. One of them was Jon Brion with Matt Chamberlain on drums. Holy shit that was great.
Then again I look for more than just a great drummer. I love an overall amazing and different sound.
